iii. Differentiation between saturated and unsaturated carbon compounds.
Saturated carbon compounds contain only (C-C) between carbon atoms.
General Formula: \(C_nH_2{_n}{_+}{_2}\)
Example: Alkanes, such as methane (CH₄), ethane (C₂H₆).
Unsaturated carbon compounds contain (C=C or C≡C)  one or more bonds between carbon atoms.
General Formula for Alkenes: \(C_nH_2{_n}\)
General Formula for Alkynes: \(C_nH_2{_n}{_-}{_2}\)
 
Examples:

Alkenes (with double bonds), such as ethene (C₂H₄).
Alkynes (with triple bonds), such as ethyne (C₂H₂).
